BOWLING GREEN - Lee Aring, a retired farmer and meat cutter, died yesterday in Community Nursing Home here. He was 78 and suffered from cancer.

Up until a few years ago, Mr. Aring farmed on Sugar Ridge Road in Webster Township, according to his daughter, Mary Nelson.

For 40 years he operated Aring Meat Processing from his farm, which today is owned and operated by his son, Mike.

“Over the years, he cut meat, raised cattle and pigs, and was a grain farmer,” Ms. Nelson explained.

When his son took over the farm, Mr. Aring moved down the road so he could be nearby and help out.

Mr. Aring grew up on a farm near Pemberville and attended Pemberville High School before joining the Army after the start of World War II, during which he served in Europe.

He and his wife, Ruth, were married for 54 years.

Mr. Aring was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Luckey, where he had been president, a member of the church council, and a trustee.

His other memberships included the Wood County Cattlemen's Association, Luckey Farmers, Inc., and the American Legion.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth; daughter, Mary Nelson; son, Michael; brothers, Paul, Milton, and Edward, and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the church.

The body will be in the Marsh Funeral Home, Pemberville, after 2 p.m. tomorrow and at the church an hour before the funeral.

The family requests tributes to the church or the American Cancer Society.
