SWANTON - Neva R. “Babe” Robasser, who worked as a school cook for more than 30 years in Fulton County, died of heart failure Saturday in Flower Hospital, Sylvania. She was 74.

Mrs. Robasser retired from Evergreen High School in 1994, where she had worked since 1968. Before that, she had cooked at the former Fulton Local School in Ai, which became part of the new Evergreen district.

“She liked the work, she liked the people she worked with, and she liked the kids,” Kristen Hoffman, her oldest daughter, said. “She knew everybody.”

Mrs. Robasser and her husband, Kenneth, were married in 1947. They eloped to Angola, Ind., to say their vows, honeymooned in Niagara Falls, N.Y., then settled on an acre of land in Fulton Township, where they remained.

In retirement, Mrs. Robasser spent a lot of time baby-sitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She and Mr. Robasser also enjoyed traveling to Georgetown, S.C., and Laughlin, Nev., the respective homes of their son, Richard, and daughter, Shelley Snyder.

The couple were members of the Swanton VFW post.

Mrs. Robasser grew up on a farm outside of Lyons, Ohio, the youngest of 13 brothers and sisters.

Surviving are her husband, Kenneth; daughters, Kristen Hoffman and Shelley Snyder; son, Richard; sisters, Bonnie Merillat, Ella Mae Sparks, Betty Noonan, Beatrice Myers, and Colleen Borck; brother, Adrian Hildreth, four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Biehl-Malone Funeral Home, Swanton, where the body will be after 2 p.m. tomorrow.

The family requests tributes to the Swanton Volunteer Rescue Squad or to a charity of the donor's choice.
