ADRIAN - A memorial service will be held Sunday for Jean E. Opferman, a retired office accountant who enjoyed traveling the country in a motor home.

She died May 30 in a Peoria, Ariz., care center. She was 80 years old and had suffered a stroke, said her daughter-in-law, Diane Holdridge.

Mrs. Opferman was born in Jackson, Mich., and lived in Adrian and Tecumseh before moving in the 1980s to Peoria, a city of 130,000 in the Valley of the Sun area of northwest Arizona. She often referred to Arizona as “God's country” because of its warm desert climate, according to Mrs. Holdridge.

In Michigan, Mrs. Opferman worked as an office accountant for a company that manufactured pool chemicals, her daughter-in-law said.

She and her husband, Harold, who passed away in the late 1990s, owned a motor home and were members of a camping club, Mrs. Holdridge said. The couple traveled extensively throughout the United States in their motor home, staying at parks and campgrounds.

Mrs. Opferman also was very active in church, attending a nondenominational church in Peoria, and she loved to cook, Mrs. Holdridge said.

Surviving are her sons, Jerry Holdridge and Lonnie Holdridge; daughter, Della Nelson; sister, Doris Giffin, and brother, George Heminger.

The memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at the home of her friends, Ken and Claire Wise, 515 West Brown St., Tecumseh. A memorial service was held in Arizona on June 7.

The family requests tributes to the Adrian Township Fire Department.
