Security firm worker was active in church

7/28/2003

Robert J. Loomis, who worked for a security firm for years and who was active in the Point Place community and at his West Toledo church, died yesterday of a heart attack at Harborside Healthcare in Sylvania Township. He was 75.

He was born in Toledo in 1928 to Victor and Lulu Loomis and had lived in Toledo all his life before moving to Temperance three years ago.

Mr. Loomis worked for A.D.T. Security Systems in Toledo for 31 years, installing and maintaining security systems in businesses and, later, homes too. He retired about 1993.

At home he was an active father who enjoyed taking his sons hunting and fishing.

In the late 1950s, Mr. Loomis served as cub master with Cub Scouts, and he was president of the Parent-Teacher Association at Shoreland Elementary School in Point Place for a time.

He was very involved with his sons' youth football games at Shoreland. He organized refreshments, transportation, and benefit dinners.

“He wouldn't miss one of those games for anything,” said his wife, Winifred Jean Loomis.

Mr. Loomis also enjoyed woodworking and liked to make whirligigs and wind chimes.

He was active at the Flanders Road Church of Christ and served on the board of trustees in the mid-1990s.

“The biggest part of his life was being active at Flanders Road Church of Christ,” said his daughter, Sandra Lewallen.

He oversaw the maintenance of church buildings and loved the social aspects of church.

“He was always happy,” said Mrs. Lewallen, “He had a positive attitude.”

Surviving are his wife, Winifred Jean; sons, James and Randy Loomis and Ronald, Larry, and Fred Fritz; daughters, Sandra Lewallen, Robin Spangler, and Donna Sedlock; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow and 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, Temperance, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m.
