SWANTON - Raymond F. Simon, 80, an Amboy Township trustee for 33 years, died of cancer Tuesday in his home.

A trustee until six years ago, Mre. Simon was on the 911 board when Fulton County first got service and was involved in organizing the township's fire department during the early 1980s, his son, Joe Simon, said.

"He was very instrumental in building the new fire building," he said.

Mr. Simon, who was elected president of the Catholic Knights of Ohio in 2002, had been on the fraternal group's board for 34 years.

"The community was important to him," his son said.

Mr. Simon was born Sept. 17, 1923, in Assumption, Ohio, and graduated in 1941 from Central Catholic High School in Toledo.

The lifelong farmer belonged to Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Assumption, the Delta Fraternal Order of Eagles, and St. Mary's Catholic War Veterans Post 306.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Olive Rose Simon; sons, Joe and Jeff Simon; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

The body will be in the Weigel Funeral Home, Metamora, Ohio, after 2 p.m. tomorrow. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the church.

The family suggests tributes to Hospice Caring Way of Williams and Fulton Counties, the Holy Trinity building fund, or a charity of the donor's choice.
