Longtime teacher was world traveler

FINDLAY - Leora Rosella Ehrnsberger, 71, who taught for Findlay City Schools for 30 years, died of cancer Sunday in the Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center here.

"She lived a very full life, and she touched a lot of people in her life," daughter Marianne Baker said.

Mrs. Ehrnsberger, a native of rural Upper Sandusky, Ohio, graduated from Dola, Ohio, High School in 1950 and received a bachelor of science degree in 1954 from Bowling Green State University.

She later got a master's degree in education from BGSU and took doctoral classes in education at several colleges, including the University of Findlay and a university in Spain, where she was an exchange student of the University of Santa Clara, Calif.

Mrs. Ehrnsberger taught third and fourth grade for Findlay schools from about 1965 until about 1995 when she retired. She then substituted in the schools for a few years.

In her free time, Mrs. Ehrnsberger enjoyed traveling. She had been to all 50 states and 41 countries and contributed to numerous travel projects and book reviews through the Hancock County Retired Teachers Travel Program, which she co-chaired up until 2003 when she arranged the last trip.

Mrs. Ehrnsberger was the current regent of the Fort Findlay Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church, Findlay, and the Lady Grace Chetwood Chapter Colonial Dames XVII Century, Findlay. She was a life member of the Ohio Education Association, National Education Association, and the Ohio Retired Teachers Association.

Surviving are her husband of 27 years, Donald E. Ehrnsberger; daughters, Marianne Baker and Pamela Human; stepdaughter, Phyllis Rupert; stepsons, David Ehrnsberger, Donald Ehrnsberger, and Randall Ehrnsberger; 17 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today in St. Andrew United Methodist Church, Findlay. Arrangements are by the Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, Findlay.

The family suggests tributes to Bridge Home Health and Hospice or to the Daughters of the American Revolution.
