CPA co-founded firm with hard work, humor

10/19/2004

Warren H. Bock, a former vice president of the Ohio Association of Certified Public Accountants, who also co-founded the accounting firm Bock, Korsnack, and Hinds, died yesterday in the Goerlich Center for Alzheimer's in Sylvania. He was 80.

Family members said Mr. Bock was diagnosed with the disease when he started suffering from bouts of active dementia seven years ago. "He was a very caring and sweet man who loved his children and grandchildren," said Joan Bock, his wife of 56 years.

Born in Toledo in 1924, Mr. Bock graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1942 and then joined the Navy, serving as a storekeeper on the USS Wasp in the South Pacific during World War II. He then returned and enrolled at the University of Toledo, graduating in 1951 with a degree in business.

A member of several fraternal organizations at one time, Mr. Bock started his career as an accountant at the firm of Weidman, Madden, and Dolan, which later became Arthur Young and Co. "He was a very hard-working man. He pulled himself from a struggling CPA to creating his own firm," his wife said. "We will miss his sense of humor and his strong belief in God."

Surviving are his wife, Joan; daughter, Ann Prue; son, Gerald, and three grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the Witzler Shank Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Zoar Lutheran Church in Perrysburg.

The family suggests that tributes be made to the New Millennium Fund at Zoar Church or Paul's Peers Respite Care.
