LUCKEY - Lowen H. Meyer, 81, an electrical contractor here who owned L.H. Meyer Inc. for many years, died of complications of blood cancer Saturday in Flower Hospital, Sylvania.

A Luckey native, Mr. Meyer attended public schools and graduated from Troy-Luckey High School in 1942. He went on to study engineering at Ohio State University, where he spent one semester before being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943.

A private first class, Mr. Meyer served with the 11th Armored Division in Europe during World War II and was one of the soldiers who fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

Mr. Meyer, who inherited the family business after the death of his father, worked as an electrical contractor here from 1947 until 1995, when he retired at age 71.

"He was a giving and caring person. A man of strong principles," said Betty Meyer, his wife.

"Being an electrician was the family trade," Mrs. Meyer said. "That's why he went to work for his father."

Mr. Meyer married Betty Stallsmith on June 3, 1951.

"He enjoyed spending time with his family. My son says that he was a great mentor," said Brenda Monroe, his daughter. She said that her father also enjoyed playing golf and dart ball.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Betty Meyer; daughters, Sharon Koehler, Marsha Nelson, and Brenda Monroe; son, Richard, and nine grandchildren.

Visitation and graveside services will be private. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on April 2 in the Zion Lutheran Church, Luckey.

The family suggests tributes to the Zion Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or a charity of the donor's choice.
