Senior center chairman volunteered in Adrian

ADRIAN - Thomas Limbacher, Jr., 83, a former board chairman of the Adrian Senior Center, died of an apparent stroke Tuesday in the Bixby Medical Center.

Mr. Limbacher, a retired production supervisor at American Chain and Cable in Adrian, was the board chairman in the 1980s.

Since his retirement in the late 1980s, Mr. Limbacher volunteered at the Department of Aging in Adrian, where he was a tax volunteer, and was secretary of the United Auto Workers Retirees, Adrian.

"He liked to help other people," Janice Limbacher, his wife of 16 years, said. "He was very caring, and really cared about other people."

An Adrian native, Mr. Limbacher married Mary Yenor in 1942. She died in 1987.

During World War II, he served in the Army overseas from 1942 until 1945, when he was honorably discharged with the rank of corporal. After the war, Mr. Limbacher returned to Adrian, where he lived until moving to Morenci, Mich., in 1989.

In Adrian, he worked for American Chain and Cable for 42 years, until retiring in the late 1980s as production supervisor.

In the late 1980s, he also was a director of the Tecumseh Lenawee County Community Credit Union in Adrian.

In his free time, Mr. Limbacher enjoyed reading, traveling, and doing crossword puzzles.

A very religious person, Mr. Limbacher was a lifelong member of the St. John's Lutheran Church, Adrian, where he held numerous offices over the years.

Surviving are his wife, Janice; daughter, Joyce Jean; sons, Larry, Richard, and Thomas; 10 grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow in St. John's Lutheran Church, Adrian. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today in the Eagle Funeral Home's Charles Fink Chapel, Morenci.

The family suggests tributes to the St. John's Lutheran Church's Journey in Faith program to build a church just north of Adrian.
