NORTH BALTIMORE, Ohio - Nancy Richmond, 71, a former owner of the Marlee Beauty Shop and a longtime community volunteer who served as the North Baltimore village clerk for nine years, died Sunday in the Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay, from complications of cancer.

Mrs. Richmond was well-known not only for her beauty shop business, but for her volunteer work with area chapters of Save the Children, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the American Cancer Society.

The shop originally was owned by her mother. Mrs. Richmond and her husband, Harold "Ed" Richmond, operated it for many years.

"She was very caring and very heart-warming," Mr. Richmond said. "Everybody was her friend."

He said his wife particularly enjoyed her volunteer work with children and helping people with cancer "because she had something to offer them."

The daughter of a grocery store owner, she was born Nancy Lambright in Fostoria, and her family moved to North Baltimore in 1947. A 1953 graduate of North Baltimore High School, Mrs. Richmond attended Bowling Green State University.

She married Mr. Richmond on Oct. 16, 1955.

She was a longtime member of St. James United Methodist Church, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the North Baltimore American Legion auxiliary.

Surviving are her husband, Harold; daughter, Tonya Howard; sons, Martin, Yancy, and David; nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Smith-Crates Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The family suggests tributes to a charity of the donor's choice.
