Area businessman was avid golfer
5/6/2006Thomas P. Driscoll, 66, a former Toledo business executive and a former Sylvania business owner who sponsored a golf tournament in Sylvania, died of congestive heart failure Wednesday in Flower Hospital.
Mr. Driscoll was vice president and manager of sales at the former Ransom and Randolph Co. dental supplies manufacturing plant in North Toledo from the late 1970s through the early 1980s, when he became vice president of sales for the Penn-Med Technology Corp. in West Conshohocken, Pa. Ransom and Randolph moved to Maumee in 1984.
He also owned and operated Concept Dental, a Sylvania firm that sold endodontic products until about 2002, when he dissolved the business.
An avid golfer, he was a founder and the sponsor of the Pink Panther golf tournament held on Labor Day at Spuyten Duyval Golf Club in Sylvania, where he was a member.
The last tournament was held in 2004, because Mr. Driscoll got too busy with Executive Sales Associates, a national independent group of dental product salesmen. Most recently, he had been the group's vice president since about 1998, his wife, Kathy Driscoll, said.
"He was extremely highly regarded in the [dental products sales] industry," Mrs. Driscoll said.
A native of Youngstown, Mr. Driscoll graduated from Youngstown State University in the early 1960s, with a bachelor's degree in business administration.
In his free time, Mr. Driscoll enjoyed traveling and sports.
Proud of his Irish heritage, Mr. Driscoll had traveled to Ireland and cherished St. Patrick's Day as one of his favorite holidays.
His memberships included the Spuyten Duyval Golf Club, Sylvania, the Toledo Elks, the Sylvania Moose, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
Surviving are his wife, Kathy Driscoll, and stepson, Patrick McDaniel.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 West Sylvania Ave, Toledo, where the body will be after 2 p.m. tomorrow.
The family suggests tributes to the American Heart Association or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tenn.
