Ex-coach led softball league in Bryan, drove stock cars

BRYAN - I. David "Little Davey" Moskowitz, 68, a former president of the Bryan Softball League, a onetime softball coach, and a former stock car driver who was a self-taught musician, died of cancer Friday in the Dilworth Center of Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers, Montpelier, Ohio.

Mr. Moskowitz was president of the softball league for more than 10 years until 1988, during which time he also was an Industrial Softball League coach.

In the mid 1990s, Mr. Moskowitz was a coach for the Montpelier Girls Softball League.

He also raced a stock car at the former Bryan Raceway in the late 1960s through the early 1970s.

Mr. Moskowitz retired this year from Bard Manufacturing after 41 years, of service, mostly as a shipping and receiving clerk.

Over the years, Mr. Moskowitz enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and playing in area country rock bands.

"He was an entertainer and a hard worker," his daughter, Jeanette Hull, said. "He was a friend to all. Everybody loved him."

A native of the Pittsburgh area, Mr. Moskowitz was a graduate of Mount Lebanon High School, Mt. Lebanon, Pa., where he held records in track and cross country and was the captain of the track and cross country teams.

Mr. Moskowitz was a member of Olive Branch Christian Union Church, Fayette, Ohio, where he played drums.

His other memberships included the Montpelier Moose and Montpelier Eagles.

Surviving are his wife of 20 years, Kathy Jean; sons, Isaac D. Moskowitz II, Todd Moskowitz, and Gregory Heber; daughter, Jeanette Hull; stepsons, Rory Browning, Denny Elkins, and William Mohr; stepdaughters, Debi Swager and Nora Elkins; half brother, Paul Zolbroad; half sister, Wilma Austin; six grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and a stepgreat-granddaughter.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Olive Branch Christian Union Church, Fayette. Visitation will be in the Oberlin-Ford Funeral Home, Bryan, from 1 to 7 p.m. today.

The family suggests tributes to I. David Moskowitz Memorial Scholarship Fund at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mich.
