Electrical contractor was also a scoutmaster
2/9/2007PEMBERVILLE, Ohio - Pete Leland Evans, 83, a co-owner and operator of the former Electrical Contracting and Supply Co. in Bowling Green, died Thursday in the Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg Township.
The family did not know the cause of death.
Mr. Evans co-owned and operated the business for 42 years until retiring in 1986, when it was sold.
In the 1950s and 1960s, the company did the wiring for area schools and hospitals, converting them from gas to electric.
Mr. Evans was especially proud of his involvement in the wiring projects at Wood County Hospital and buildings on the Bowling Green State University campus, his son Robin Evans said.
Mr. Evans was also a founder of Boy Scout Troop 330 in Scotch Ridge, Ohio, for which he volunteered as the scoutmaster for 25 years, until a few years ago.
"He was a natural leader and he wanted to make a difference," Robin Evans said.
A native of Newbury, Ohio, Mr. Evans picked his trade while serving as an electrician in the Navy in the South Pacific during World War II.
He later became a member of Local 8 of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in Toledo.
After the war, Mr. Evans also received a bachelor's degree in education from Bowling Green State University.
In 1948, he married Audrey C. Burkhardt. She died in 2000.
Mr. Evans, who lived in Pemberville, was a member of First United Methodist Church, Bowling Green.
His other memberships included Jaycees, Rotary Club, Lions Club, and Exchange Club, all in Bowling Green.
Surviving are his sons, David and Robin, and three grandchildren.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. today in the Deck-Hanneman Funeral Home, Bowling Green.
The family suggests tributes to a charity of the donor's choice.
