11/23/2007

James R. Kronbach, 74, a retired accountant and salesman, died at his Toledo home Wednesday of complications from skin cancer and Parkinson's disease.

Mr. Kronbach retired in 1998 from Stoneco Inc.'s Maumee stone quarry, 1360 Ford St., after 19 years with the company, primarily in sales.

Before that, he was an accountant for many years at a number of area firms.

He was at different times a chief cost accountant and controller at Lehn and Fink Products Co.'s Toledo operation; assistant treasurer and comptroller at the Sun Tool & Machine Co., and secretary-treasurer of the Nicholas Corp.

"He was extremely honest," his son, Timothy Kronbach, said.

"He was a very kind person, with a very good character. He made friends with everybody, and he treated everybody the same."

Mr. Kronbach graduated in 1951 from Central Catholic High School and received a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Toledo.

In retirement, Mr. Kronbach enjoyed spending time watching his grandchildren play sports.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sylvania, where he sang in the church choir.

His other memberships included the National Association of Accountants and the Brandywine Country Club in Maumee, where he liked to play golf.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Eugenia; son, Timothy; daughters, Victoria Hackman, Kimberly Douglas, and Ann Marie Santiago; sister, Suzanne O'Connell, and 13 grandchildren.

There will be no visitation. A memorial Mass will be at

10 a.m. tomorrow at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Sylvania. The Reeb Funeral Home, Sylvania, is handling arrangements.

The family suggests tributes to St. Francis de Sales High School's football and baseball programs.
