Delta High ex-teacher was village councilman

DELTA, Ohio - Joyce A. Hintz, 66, of Delta, a retired Delta High School teacher and a former longtime Delta village councilman, died of cancer Saturday at her daughter Dawn Rupp's home in Wauseon.

Mrs. Hintz served on the village council in the Fulton County community through the 1980s and the early 1990s.

During that time, she also coached golf and track and field at Delta High School.

As an educator, Mrs. Hintz started out teaching children with learning disabilities at Delta High School in the early 1980s, and continued her teaching career until the late 1980s when she took charge of the Pike-Delta-York School District's library system as media specialist, the position from which she retired in 1992.

"She was just a very giving and loving person who would do things for others before herself," Mrs. Rupp said.

A native of Delta, Mrs. Hintz, whose maiden name was Woody, was graduated from Delta High School in 1959 and went on to college.

In the early 1960s, she received her bachelor's degree in education from Bowling Green State University, She later did postgraduate work at the University of Toledo and Kent State University.

After receiving her college degree, she married Richard Hintz in 1962. He died in 1983.

She was an avid traveler, and visited all 50 states and various countries overseas. Her other hobbies included reading and collecting light-house memorabilia.

Mrs. Hintz was a member of the Delta Church of Christ.

Surviving are her daughter, Dawn Rupp; sons, Kenneth Hintz, Kyle Hintz, and Kevin Hintz; sisters, Mary Lou Yohe, Jean Skates, and Louella Caldwell, and six grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Barnes Funeral Chapel in Delta.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Delta Church of Christ.

The family suggests tributes to Hospice of Williams and Fulton Counties, Delta Church of Christ, or the Relay for Life, care of First Federal Bank in Wauseon.
