The competition, held Feb. 8 at Terra Community College, determined qualifiers for the career development conference in Columbus March 7-9.

Students who make the trip to the state competition have the opportunity to qualify for the International Career Development Conference held in Atlanta in late April.

DECA is an international association of high school and college students who study marketing, management, and entrepreneurship in business, finance, hospitality, and marketing sales and service.

PORT CLINTON - The Port Clinton High School Concert Band will present its annual winter concert March 3 in the Port Clinton Performing Arts Center with a piece composed by an Ohioan.

The free concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

Among the offerings from Director Rod Miller will be the "Circus Days" march, composed by Ohio native Karl King.

The circus march is a type of music often performed by circus bands and were often referred to as "screamers," which indicated the extremely fast tempo in which they were performed.

The performance will include "Trail of Tears" by John Barnes, which has hints of a Native-American language being spoken during the music.

Additionally, the high school band will perform for the District Ohio Music Education Association Large Group Contests, at 4 p.m. March 8 at Perkins High School in Sandusky.
