SCOTT GRAD ENCOURAGES STUDENTS

Ô89) opened coronation ceremonies at Scott High School today in anticipation of Homecoming Game Saturday against Libbey High School.  Dr. Carthen spoke of the necessity of staying in school, staying focused on graduation, and obtaining a college degree.   He wants students to think not only about their future, but also their destiny Ð the ability to achieve greatness and giving back.  His ÒLeaders of Tomorrow InitiativeÓ establishes an endowed scholarship fund, Dr. Jason and Jamesena Carthen ÒLeaders of TomorrowÓ Scholarship Fund, with the Toledo Public Schools Foundation to fund two scholarships each year Ð one for an African-American male senior and one for an African-American female senior at Scott High School to pursue their choice of study preferably at his alma mater, Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

Dr. Jason Carthen, a 1989 Scott High School graduate, spoke to current Scott students recently about the necessity of staying in school and obtaining a college degree. The former player for the National Football League's New England Patriots has established a fund for Scott students in connection with the Toledo Public Schools Foundation.
