Oregon

•Clay High School retirees will meet at 11:30 a.m. May 5 in the high school's Golden Eagle Cafe. The cost of the catered lunch is $7.50 per person. Spouses and guests are welcome. Reservations required: 419-691-7561. A tour of the renovated high school will be available.

•Oregon Safety Town, 8 and 10:30 a.m. from June 9 to 20 at Starr Elementary School, 3230 Starr Ave. Registration forms are available at the Oregon Library or at Oregon elementary schools. Children from Oregon and surrounding communities are invited to attend.

•Hoeflinger-Bolander Funeral Home will sponsor a Silver and Gold Club Day Trip to Bryan, Ohio, and More on May 20. Seniors will board the bus at 8:15 a.m. at the funeral home, 3500 Navarre Ave., and return about 7 p.m. Cost is $55 per person and includes a trip to Carruth Studios, the Candy Cane Christmas Shoppe, lunch at the Barn Restaurant at Sauder Village, and a tour of the Spangler Candy Co. tEast Toledo Family Center will register for youth summer ball leagues through May 22. Leagues include T-ball for ages 4-6, Coach's Pitch for ages 7-9, Instructional Baseball for boys 12 and younger, Instructional Softball for girls 12 and younger, Boys' Baseball for 17 and younger and Girls' Softball for 17 and younger. t5th Annual 2009 Charmed and Cherished Wine Tasting and Silent Auction, 5:30-8 p.m. April 30 at Cousino's Navy Bistro at the Docks in International Park. The event offers a chance to taste more than 40 wines, sponsored by Heidelberg Distributing Co., and samplings of hot and cold appetizers. Cherished Friends of Ahava, the event's sponsor, is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to restore hope and healing to individuals with cancer. tThe 2nd Annual Yell & Tell: Stop Child Abuse Now singles non-sanctioned bowling tournament fundraiser will be at 1 p.m. May 2 at Interstate Lanes (off the Buck Rd. exit of I-75). Trophies will be awarded. State Sen. Teresa Fedor (D., Toledo) and former State Fire Marshal Michael Bell will roll the first balls and compete against each other for the first game. Also scheduled will be a silent auction, raffles, and a DJ. The event is sponsored by the UT main campus electricians. tThe World Exchange, a nonprofit educational organization, will host two groups of young students, ages 14-18, from France ready to spend part of their summer vacation in America. They will be here July 13 to Aug. 1 and Aug. 1-20. Each student comes with ample pocket money, full insurance and are fairly fluent in English, so host families do not need to know French. Host families will need to provide a bed, daily meals, and time to experience as much of American life as possible. Program directors plan two group activities.
