Nine Owens Community College students, including two first-place winners from Delta, recently won prizes in the Walter E. Terhune Art Gallery's annual Juried Student Art Exhibition at Owens. First, second, and third-place prizes were awarded in the fine art, commercial art, and photography competitions.

Deb Helwig of Delta took first place in the fine-art category with her still-life painting, above, titled 'Fruit on a Table.' Cayln Babcock of Weston took second, and Lauren Meyers of Stryker placed third in that category, which included painting, drawing, ceramics, and sculpture. Kayte Studer of Delta took first place in the commercial art category with a page layout titled 'Portfolio of Kayte Studer.' Second prize went to Oliver Sheeter of Findlay, and Christopher Myers of Bowling Green took third.

Diann DiNardo of Toledo won the photography competition with a digital photograph titled 'Zach in the Kitchen.' Jennifer Mixon of Grand Rapids placed second, and Mike Burko of Toledo took third. The jury that judged the competition's 31 entries was made up of area artists and professionals, who considered them on the basis of creative excellence. Twenty-five Owens students enrolled in fine and performing arts courses had artwork accepted for the show.
