Wolcott Guild schedules series of history lectures at library

George Armstrong Custer, the War of 1812, and President Abraham Lincoln are among topics for presenters during the Wolcott Guild's 2011 Lecture Series, set for 10 a.m. Thursdays at the Maumee Library now through the end of March.

Thursday, local historian Fred Folger will talk about Fascinating Kentucky -- People and Places So Near and Not So Far.

On Feb. 17, Gerald Bazer , a retired professor who writes about the American presidency, is to lecture on Lincoln as a commander.

Tony DeRegnaucourt of Arcanum in Darke County, Ohio, an archaeologist and author, is to speak Feb. 24 on Greenville and the Forts of Anthony Wayne.

On March 3 Doug Bahnsen, local actor, historian, and environmentalist, is to lecture on A Most Misunderstood Man -- John Brown.

Bradley Lepper of Columbus, an archaeologist, is to present Ohio Prehistoric Archaeology on March 10.

On March 17 Steve Alexander of Monroe, who portrays Custer, is to give a presentation on the life of the former Monroe resident.

Larry L. Nelson of Weston, a former site manager at Fort Meigs State Memorial and is a historian and teacher, is to give on The War of 1812 Maumee Valley Campaign on March 24.

On March 31 Jim Bowsher of Wapakoneta, Ohio, an amateur archaeologist, storyteller, and collector, is to present Stories from the Past.
