PORT CLINTON -- The Ohio Department of Education has named Port Clinton High School Principal Ralph Moore northwest Ohio's Race to the Top's regional specialist.

Mr. Moore joined Port Clinton in 2006.

Superintendent Patrick Adkins said the search for a new high school principal will begin immediately.

Race to the Top is a federally funded school improvement initiative.

Districts that participate will receive money to achieve goals such as increasing high school graduation rates, reducing performance shortfalls, bringing Ohio closer to the best-performing states, and more than doubling college enrollment for 18 and 19-year-olds.

Under Mr. Moore's leadership, Port Clinton High School achieved an "excellent" rating on the Ohio graduation test the last five years.

In 2006, he spearheaded a football strategic plan and put together a team of community members, alumni, and coaches to rebuild the Redskin football program.

The group, Redskin Rebuild, helped increase the Redskin football team from 23 members in 2006 to more than 40 in 2010.

Mr. Moore and the Rebuild Committee were successful in raising donations to build a weight room at True-Lay Stadium.
