Doug Bahnsen, historical interpreter and entertainer, is to present "The Canal Boat Captain" tonight during a program sponsored by the Waterville Historical Society.

Mr. Bahnsen of Perrysburg has been portraying historical personalities including abolitionist John Brown, writer Henry David Thoreau, and naturalist John Muir for several years.

Two years ago he gave a living history presentation as Johnny Appleseed during the historical society's fall program.

From his experience working on a replica of a Miami and Erie Canal boat, he developed the character Captain Bahn- sen, who tells about the rugged life on the canals from the mid-1800s to the turn of the 20th century with stories and songs.

The public, including parents and children, is invited to the free program at 7 p.m. at Wakeman Hall, 401 Farnsworth Rd., Waterville.
