Rossford approves purchase of police vehicle
7/31/2012The Rossford Police Department will be getting a 2012 Chevy Tahoe.
Council approved the purchase for $27,033.50 last week. Councilman Chuck Duricek noted that the vehicle would have a service life of 150,000 to 160,000 miles, 20,000 to 30,000 miles more than a sedan.
In other business, council approved a dispatching agreement with Lake Township for 2012. The price is unchanged, at $122,220 a year, or $10,185 a month. The contract is month to month.
City Administrator Ed Ciecka said that officials in the two communities just had not gotten around to signing a formal agreement. Lake has provided dispatching services for the city for years.
Council also approved an easement for the Northwest Water and Sewer District so it can put a pumping station next to the pole barn on Wales Road near I-75 used by Rossford's service department. In return, the district will put a concrete floor in the pole barn, Mr. Ciecka said.
Police Chief Glen Goss reported that the Blue Ribbon Arson Committee had recognized his department for its work in solving a case of arson at 207 Osborne St. last year. Chief Goss said the department would be entered in a statewide drawing that will award a free admission to an arson-investigation training course.
Councilman Jerry Staczek, public safety and health committee chairman, said that most nuisance property owners are ignoring the notices from the city. He said his panel recommended that property owners who fail to address nuisance complaints not be given more time to comply. Property owners who make a good-faith effort at abating their nuisance issues could be given an extension, he said.
