Police officers to get new gym equipment

Oregon police officers will be getting new fitness equipment.

City council approved spending $30,000 from the police department's drug forfeiture funds for the purchase, which includes a treadmill, a multigym unit, and various machines.

Police Chief Mike Navarre emphasized that no taxpayer funds were being used. The vendors are Fitness Things Inc. of Ann Arbor and Design Fitness of Lewis Center, Ohio.

Council also approved spending $19,927 for an uninterruptible power supply system for the police department's dispatch center.

East Toledo

Lutheran Home sets new-unit open house

Lutheran Home of Toledo will hold an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Labuhn Center, a new short-term skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility at its Toledo campus, 131 N. Wheeling St.

The $4 million facility has 27 private rooms with attached baths and a therapy gym, a transitional room, a dining room with cafe, and flat-screen TVs, phones, and wireless Internet access in every room. It will start accepting patients early next month.

Lakeside

Association to hold antiques show

LAKESIDE, Ohio -- An antique show is to be held here from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $6 and allows customers to spend up to four hours inside the gated community. Residents do not have to pay to attend.

The show will have 85 dealers selling items that include china, glassware, art glass, furniture, perfume bottles, ladies accessories, kitchen items, cookie jars, postcards, vintage clothing, dolls, toys, books, prints, and paintings.

The sponsor is the Lakeside Association. All dealer spaces have been filled.

Elmore

40 alums sought for flag football games

ELMORE, Ohio -- The Woodmore Athletic Department is looking for 40 alumni to play in a flag football tournament that is to be held before and after the Cardinal Stritch High School football game Aug. 31.

The first two games will start at 6 p.m. on the varsity practice field. A championship game is to be held on the varsity field under the lights after the Stritch game. Those interested should call Jim Kieper at 419-862-2721, extension 301.
