Local manufacturing found weak but growing

3/30/2001

The Toledo area's manufacturing activity was weak, although growing, for the second consecutive month last month, a local study found.

The manufacturing activity index, compiled by Toledo's Regional Growth Partnership, was 51.4 percent for February, compared with 50.3 percent locally in January and 41.9 percent in February nationally. A reading above 50 percent indicates increased activity.

None of the components showed strong activity. Production, vendor deliveries, and inventories were higher than in the month before, and orders, employment, and commodity prices slipped.
