Daughters go to work

4/26/2002

DeShaney Hawthorne, 12, a student at McTigue Junior High School, gets a work lesson from her grandmother, Annette Jefferson, at Toledo Hospital, where Ms. Jefferson works as a support coordinator, during Take Our Daughters To Work Day yesterday.

Janese White, 14, a student at Washington Junior High School, whose mother, Beverly Wisdom, is a physician's assistant, punches papers. Boys also were invited to participate at many companies. Next year, Ms. Foundation, creator of the day, is changing the name to Take Our Daughters & Sons to Work Day.

The event began in 1992 as a way of instilling high career goals and self-confidence in girls.
