New owner to sell Bryan plastics factory

3/30/2005

STRYKER, Ohio - A firm that will take possession Friday of a former Strydel Inc. plastics plant in this Williams County village has no plans to operate the factory but will try to find a buyer for the building, an official said yesterday.

About 50 employees lost their jobs when the plant, owned by Bryan-based Ohio Art Co., closed last week. Buyer Rick Scofield said he will supply the main customer, General Motors Corp., from a plant he owns in Fowlerville, Mich.

The move will help reduce costs at his firm, May & Scofield, which also makes auto parts, the buyer said. The Stryker plant stayed open long enough to produce enough parts to fill GM orders through the transition, Mr. Scofield added. He agreed last November to buy Strydel from Ohio Art for an undisclosed sum. The Bryan firm wants to concentrate on its main businesses, toy production and metal lithography. The deal is to close Friday.
