Cooper Tire to close plant in Georgia

5/9/2006

FINDLAY - Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. said yesterday it plans to close its retread-products plant in Athens, Ga., eliminating about 140 jobs, within three months.

In a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the company said the plant's production is to be transferred to other factories. It said it will take accounting charges of $11 million to $15 million for one-time employee-related costs and asset write-downs over the last three quarters of 2006.
