Hiring prospects this summer in metro Toledo are weaker than nationally but about on par with a year ago, according to a new industry survey.

About two in 10 employers expect to hire and one in 10 expect to cut staff in the July-through-September period, according to Manpower Inc., a temporary staffing agency. A year ago, the results of a survey of area employers were similar.

The survey found that in Lima, 30 percent expect to hire and 7 percent to cut; in Findlay, 20 percent expect to hire and 3 percent to cut; in Defiance 17 percent to hire and 10 percent to reduce; and in Sandusky, no changes are planned.

Nationwide 31 percent of 16,000 employers surveyed expect to hire and 6 percent anticipate reducing staff during the period.
