Carey parts plant to lose 231 of 335 jobs

CAREY, Ohio More than two-thirds of the workforce at an auto parts supplier plant

under new ownership here are scheduled to lose their jobs between December and June.

Continental Structural Plastics Co., which bought the Carey plant and three others from ThyssenKrupp Budd Co. in July, said it will phase out 231 of its 335 jobs in this Wyandot County town starting Dec. 15. The plant, which makes auto body panels,

bumpers, and pickup bed boxes, is represented by United Auto Workers Local 1803.

Norm Risner, Local 1803 president, said Continental, of Bingham Farms, Mich., told

workers it has lost some production contracts and plans to move some work its six other plants. The union contract, he said, is to expire soon.
