Lima tank plant gets $359M contracts

General Dynamics Land Systems yesterday announced details of a new contract with the U.S. Army that will keep the Lima tank plant humming.

The firm announced that it had received a $339 million contract to refurbish 350 tanks into M1A1 Abrams Integrated Management tanks. Additionally, the firm received a $20 million contact to produce high-tech weapon sights for the tanks. The work won t create additional jobs, but will help preserve employment for 670 existing workers in Lima, Ohio a spokesman said.

The work was among $800 million in defense contracts announced by the firm this week.
