Ohio Art reports bigger loss, lower revenues for quarter

BRYAN - Northwest Ohio's biggest toymaker, Ohio Art Co., reported yesterday that it had a financial loss twice the size of that a year ago and lower revenues for its fiscal quarter ending April 30.

The firm that makes Etch A Sketch and other toys said weakened demand for toys overseas and flat demand in the United States helped produce a loss of $1.1 million, or $1.26 a share, for the quarter, up from a loss of $523,000, or 60 cents a share, a year ago. Each division reported bigger operating losses, the Bryan company said.

Its sales were $3.1 million for the quarter, down from $3.37 million for the period a year ago.
