Vehicle supplier to idle 177 at Van Wert plant

5/7/2008

COLUMBUS Kongsberg Driveline Systems, of Van Wert, has told state officials it plans to move its shifter-cable, sample-service, and extrusion work from its local plant, resulting in the layoff of 177 employees.

The employees at the plant at 1265 Industrial Ave. belong to the United Steelworkers, and the layoffs are to occur starting July 13.

Neither the vehicle-supplier company nor the union was available last night, and it was unclear whether the factory was closing.
