Bankruptcy filings across northwest Ohio rose in August, reversing a four-month trend in which the number of cases had been declining from last year.
Last month had 785 filings, up 6 percent from the same month last year for the 21 Ohio counties within the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Toledo. It was the highest number of filings for an August since 2005.
Through the first eight months of the year, 6,037 cases have been filed, compared with 6,014 for the period last year. The majority of cases are personal bankruptcies.
