NEW YORK — Companies in the United States unexpectedly cut jobs in September, a private report on payrolls showed Wednesday.
Employment decreased by 39,000, the biggest drop since January, after a revised 10,000 rise in August, according to figures from ADP Employer Services. Expert forecasts ranged from a decline of 44,000 to an increase of 75,000.
Economists project that a Labor Department report tomorrow will show companies added 75,000 employees last month.
