Ohio's unemployment rate fell to 10 percent last month, the sixth consecutive drop, according to figures from the state Department of Job and Family Services.

The rate was down from 10.1 percent in August, and from 10.7 percent in September, 2009.

“While Ohio's employment situation was largely unchanged in September, an increase in education and healthcare hiring helped drive the unemployment rate down for the sixth consecutive month,” ODJFS Director Douglas Lumpkin said.

Employment decreased by 17,300 jobs in September to just more than 5 million jobs. The number of unemployed workers in Ohio fell by 10,000 in September to 591,000. The U.S. jobless rate in September was 9.6 percent, unchanged from August.
