NW Ohio jobless rates improve slightly

The seasonally unadjusted jobless rate in Lucas County declined 0.4 percentage points in September to 10.7 percent, its lowest level since December 2008, according to new estimates released Tuesday morning by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

The department estimates that 23,200 people were actively looking for work but hadn't yet found jobs in Lucas County, out of a total workforce of 216,700. The jobless rate in the city of Toledo fell half a percentage point to 11.4 percent in September, down from 11.9 percent rate recorded in August, the department said.

Jobless rates continued to improve slightly in Wood and Fulton counties, falling 0.1 percentage points in each county, to 9.0 and 9.6 percent, respectively, while the jobless rate climbed in Ottawa County from 9.9 percent in August to 11.1 percent in September, the department said.
