Ohio's May jobless rate unchanged at 8.6%

The jobless picture in Ohio was unchanged last month, as the state’s unemployment picture stayed at 8.6 percent.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services said Friday morning that employment increased by 12,000 from April to 5.1 million in May.

The number of workers unemployed in Ohio was 508,000, down 1,000 from the month before.

The state’s jobless rate in May, 2010 was 10.2 percent. The national unemployment rate last month, released two weeks ago, was 9.1 percent, up from 9 percent the month before.

Jobless rates for counties in Ohio will be released Tuesday.
