Delta ending flights to certain smaller cities

MINNEAPOLIS — Delta Air Lines is shrinking its flying to small cities in the U.S. midsection, saying it can’t make money on flights that sometimes are empty.

Delta said it would adjust flights for 24 cities, many not served by other airlines. There is a risk they could lose air service altogether, although some of routes are likely to be taken over by regional airlines.

Affected flights connect Delta’s hubs to cities in Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
