Jobless rates dropped significantly last month in metro Toledo even as the statewide rate increased.

The unemployment rate in Lucas County sank to 10 percent, from 10.5 percent in July, and fell in Toledo to 10.6 percent from 11.1 percent the month before, according to a report Tuesday from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

The rate declined in the other three counties that comprise metro Toledo — in Fulton County, to 8.6 percent from 10.4 percent in July; in Ottawa County, to 9.2 percent from 9.7 percent; and in Wood County, to 8.8 percent from 9.4 percent.

All of the rates in metro Toledo were down last month from August, 2010.

The statewide rate, released last week, was 9.1 percent in August, up from 9 percent the month earlier.
