Jobless rate up across metro Toledo

Unemployment increased in metro Toledo last month, jumping in the city of Toledo to 9 percent.

Figures released today from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services show the jobless rate for Lucas County rose in June to 8.3 percent, up from 7.8 percent the month before but well below the June, 2011 rate of 10.4 percent.

The rates in other metro counties are: in Wood, 7.5 percent last month, up from 7.2 percent the month before; in Fulton, 7.1 percent, up from 7 percent; and in Ottawa, 8.3 percent, up from 7.8 percent.

The unemployment in June also rose in several other northwest Ohio counties.

The statewide rate, released last week, dipped to 7.2 percent last month from 7.3 percent the month before. The national rate, released more than two weeks ago, was unchanged at 8.2 percent.
