Dana Holding Corp. technology that allows precise tire pressure changes from inside a vehicle will be included on prototype tactical vehicles being tested by the U.S. Department of Defense.

The Maumee-based company announced this week that its Spicer Central Tire Inflation System is being used on all three vehicles being considered for the Army and Marine Corps Joint Light Tactical Vehicle Program.

Dana said the system also allows vehicles to operate with low tire pressure and can help free vehicles that become immobilized.

The test vehicles are being made by Lockheed Martin, Oshkosh, and AM General.

Dana said roughly 22 prototypes will be built. Full production contracts are expected to be awarded by 2016.
