Representatives from dozens of area companies and a handful of educational institutions were on hand today at the SeaGate Convention Centre for a county sponsored job and career fair.

Employers included Schindler Elevator Corp., Radio Shack, Helm Instrument Co. Inc., and the Toledo Police Department, which is recruiting for a new candidate class.

Mike Veh, work force development manager at The Source of Northwest Ohio, said many employers were looking to hire now, not just gathering resumes for potential future openings.

County officials said nearly 1,000 people had preregistered online for the job fair, and expected as many as 1,500 people to attend.

It's the 10th job fair the county has hosted since 2004.
