Lucas County unemployment rate up in December

The unemployment rate in Lucas County was higher again in December, inching up to 7.6 percent.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services released last month's unemployment numbers for each of Ohio's 88 counties and a handful of major cities today. The figures show unemployment rates were up across the region.

The state said Lucas County's rate was up from 7.4 percent in November. Toledo's rate rose in lock-step, going from 8 percent in November to 8.2 percent in December. The unemployment rate in Toledo and Lucas County had fallen for three straight months before going up slightly in November.

In Ottawa County, the state said the December unemployment rate was 10.9 percent, up from 9.5 percent in November. Fulton County's rate was 7.6 percent in December, up from 7.1 percent in November. Wood County's rate rose to 6.1 percent in December from 5.8 percent in November. The figures are not seasonally adjusted.

The state said last week Ohio's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for December fell 0.1 percentage to 6.7 percent -- the lowest since July, 2008.
