Bankruptcy court filings in Toledo up for first time in a year

Case filings in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Toledo rose by 2 percent in January, the first time bankruptcy filings have risen since February of last year.

Filings totaled 333 last month, the same number of cases filed in December. Last month’s case total still was the second-lowest number of filings for the month of January in a five-year stretch in the Toledo court, which covers 21 counties in northwest Ohio.

Out of the 333 cases, 299 were Chapter 7 liquidation filings, which was a increase of 2 percent from a year ago. Chapter 13 repayment plan cases totaled 34 filings, a decrease of 17 percent. No Chapter 11 reorganization cases were filed in January.
