Area bankruptcy cases slide 15% from 2012

Cases filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Toledo declined 15 percent in February compared to the same month a year ago, according to statistics from the Toledo court, which covers 21 counties in northwest Ohio.

In February, 417 cases were filed, compared to 492 cases in February, 2012. It marked the 28th time in 30 months bankruptcy filings declined. Filings were up 2 percent in January.

For the year, overall cases filed in the Toledo court total 750, an 8 percent decrease during the same period a year ago. Through February, Chapter 7 liquidation cases total 677, a decrease of 6 percent from a year ago.
