Area unemployment rates dip in April

Unemployment rates in Toledo and the surrounding area declined in April, according to data released today by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

In Toledo, the unemployment rate fell from 9.1 percent in March to 8.4 percent in April. In Lucas County, the rate dropped from 8.5 percent to 7.8 percent.

Wood County's rate dropped from 7.2 percent to 6.6 percent. In Fulton County, the rate fell from 8.9 percent to 7.9 percent.

Ottawa County, which has a large number of employers who increase employment in the spring and summer months, saw the most improvement in the area. Its rate dropped from 11.9 percent to 9.1 percent.

The data is not seasonally adjusted.
