Buses, trucks banned from Secor, Central area

Through trucks and buses have been banned temporarily from the Secor Road and Central Avenue intersection because of problems with longer vehicles making right turns while the intersection is rebuilt, city officials announced Tuesday.

Since Monday, Secor and Central has been restricted to right turns only while the intersection's middle is rebuilt. Cars have had no trouble making the turns, but longer vehicles have ridden up on curbs and even struck pedestrian signals, Steve Hamilton, city public liaison for the Secor Road reconstruction, said.

Mr. Hamilton said additional signs have been posted and police have been assigned to direct tractor trailers to detour routes. Work shifts have been scheduled for the upcoming weekend to shorten the detour's duration, he added, though he did not say how much sooner than the original July 17 completion date the work phase might end.

A Bell administration statement said buses also will be detoured away from the intersection, which could affect several Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority routes.
