FOSTORIA — A KeyBank branch in downtown Fostoria will close in November.

The last day for the Tiffin Street branch is Nov. 8. Customer accounts will be transferred to a branch about a mile away at 601 N. Countyline St., said Mark Knierim, vice president of marketing for KeyBank in Toledo.

Customers were notified of the fall closure late last month and have until the first week of November to move safety deposit boxes.

The company earlier this year announced plans to close about 50 locations in 2013.

Customer traffic numbers at the Fostoria site contributed to the decision to close it, and it is “as of this date” the only one to close in northwest Ohio, Mr. Knierim said.

The branch was built in 1969 by Ohio Savings and Loan, and became part of KeyBank about a decade later after mergers.

Mr. Knierim said he did not know what would happen to the property. Seneca County auditor records list the owner as Ohio Savings & Loan Association.

Branch employees will be transferred to other sites.

Joan Reinhard, executive director of the Fostoria Economic Development Corp., said the Countyline Street branch location offers more exposure, and the shuttering of the downtown site has been under consideration for a while.
