Local bankruptcy filings continue their decline

  • Bankruptcy filings in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Toledo dropped 6 percent in June compared to a year ago, the 14th straight month that filings either declined or were flat, according to figures from the federal clerk of courts office.

    There were a total of 387 filings, compared with 412 cases filed in June, 2013. The Toledo court covers 21 counties in northwest Ohio.

    Overall, there have been 2,422 cases filed in the Toledo court since Jan. 1, a 13 percent decrease over the same six-month period in 2013.

    Chapter 7 liquidation filings totaled 357 cases in June, a decrease of 7 percent from a year ago. Chapter 13 repayment filings totaled 30 cases, an increase of 1 percent.
